meter history

I was diagnosed at a type 2 diabetic on Friday 7 May 2004.

I was directed to buy my first blood meter on Monday 10 May 2004. I have forgotten what brand it was but it cost be $85. The test stripes were (I think) about $15 for 50. This was damned expensive.

The unit was clunky and required a lot of blood. I was able to test off my forearm because I was afraid of testing off a finger. (Now, I always test off the side of a finger on my left hand.)

The second and third meters were much cheaper.

About 2014, my third meter disappeared. The pharmacist told me to download a coupon and he would be able to give me a free meter in exchange for this coupon. I did so and all was good!

About a week ago, I had my semi-annual VA physical and gave my meter to the VA Nurse so she could download the test results. They did not have programmes to down load this information. So, they gave me a free meter.

This is my first usage of the meter the VA Doc gave me. My old meter was maybe three years old. I've read that meters should be replaced every years and I have never done this! I will be getting my test stripes and lancets from the VA through the regular consumable replacement system.-
