Ozempic #32

I was diagnosed type 2 Diabetic Friday 7 May 2004. I have been on different pills since Monday 10 Mauy 2004 but never on the needle!

For years, different MDs and RNs tried to convince me to "go on the needle" (my term), insulin, saying I would feel better. I remembered the huge needles and the number of times a day my late Father and late youngest brother Charlie had to use. That was not for me!

On Monday, 13 February 2023, my VA Nurse Practitioner told me my A1C was climbing and that I would either have to go on insulin daily or Ozempic once a week. She said I no longer had a choice. She also said VA provided Ozempic is "much, much less" than in the civilian market [words to that effect]. (It is!)

So, I agreed to "go on the needle".

I received my first Ozempic Pen 21 February 2023. A couple of RNs at the local VA clinic supervised me giving myself that first shot. It basically did not hurt!

Thus, I am going to be on Ozempic "for the duration". The main affects are I've lost appetite and do not have much interest in drinking. (This has been dropping for years anyway.)

February 2023

The initial four doses are 0.25 mg each with doses 5 and 6 at 0.5 mg. Subsequent doses will be 0.5 mg each.

 Tonight, I poured my self a coffee mug of White Zin and had trouble finishing it.

Ozempic reactions

 I just took my weekly Ozempic shot.

I had immediate reactions. I felt a rush of heat from my upper body into my neck. Then after this ended quickly, I had a headache and felt hunger. Hunger ended quickly and was replaced with nausia. This is tapering off and all this in the past 15 minutes or so.

I can live with this as I suspect  these reactions will be short lived.

Those with insurance pay  2.735% what the uninsured pay. (2.7352297592997811816192% actually)

$914 is 228.5% of $25.  How can folks afford this difference?

I remember being told our medical insurance is the best in the world.  It is not! If it we're then "ObamaCare" would not have been so popular with the uninsured or poorly insured.

Musing on progression of my diabetics...

 I am T2D  and am getting the skunk eye from my personal MD, the VA Doc and my Heart Surgeon.  It took almost 19 years of fending off the needle but I am now on Ozempic once a week. Ozempix shots are virtually pain free and have a much smaller needle than the insulin needles my Father and youngest brother Charlie had to live with...

 I was diagnosed type 2 Diabetic Saturday 7 March 2023. I have been on different pills since Tuesday 10 March 2023 but never on the needle^!                                                ``                                                               

I have had various MDs and three different Nurse Practitioners. I test my blood sugar upon getting out of bed and 2 hours after "forks down" after my evening meals. My heart surgeon is concerned about my blood pressure.

I use the Greek letter Σ (summation) to show how many times I have injected Ozempic.[1]

V is for vomiting and pain in my ribcage on the lower right. I ate too much of an oily steak for dinner and had a gall bladder attack.

Y means I actually took the shot…

I was in bed asleep, with my hearing aids out and yet I heard this alert clearly. Kathie was right when she said it was loud in our room.

[1] “All good things must come to an end” and so I went “on the needle” (Ozempic) on Friday 24 February 2023. On Tuesday 23 May 2023, it seems like I have been on Ozempic forever. Giving myself an injection, each Friday afternoon no longer is a big deal. It simply is a part of my life…

[7] I had a peanut butter sandwich two hours before this reading. Other nights, I have had small amounts of meat, veggies and even a small baked potato with a much lower “two hours past forks down” score!
